Packing a Backpack for your First Travel Adventure

Posted in : Travel on by : admin Comments:

That first step into transitioning from holidays to travelling is scary. How is it going to be different? Will it be as much fun? How is it possible to budget? One of the first steps is to make sure you are packing well and taking the right things with you. Make sure you have the right backpack in the first place – this one is essential. Choose a backpack that is easy for you to carry, or it will just become too difficult to take around with you. If it means getting  smaller one, you will just have to manage. It is much more important to have a backpack that is easy to manage. Next, make sure you have a concise list. Research your travel destinations thoroughly so you know what to expect with the weather. Take appropriate clothes and make sure you have any medication you need, like anti malarials.

Holiday to South Holland

Posted in : Travel on by : admin Comments:

When people think of Holland, many think of Amsterdam, though it has gained a reputation for sex, drugs and gaydom; more so than the actual culture. But there is so much more to Holland than Amsterdam, and if you travel further down south towards the Belgium side, you will find a beautiful culture that is just waiting to be explored; the more south you travel the less English will be spoken, so take that into account. Holland is an unusual country filled with eccentric thinkers who are always finding new ways to think. The style of their buildings is typically Dutch, but the urban street is an amalgamation of Americanised style, British Style and Dutch, perfectly blended together to create a unique style all in its own. It’s also a country obsessed with Bikes, and making the most of how to use those bikes; and how to get things on a bike from the supermarket and cycle home with it. Train travel is average and cheaper than in England, and with a better service, but trains are more for long range travel, rather than short distances in the areas further south.  Bear in mind that you have to buy the…

Health Advice for Travel to India

Posted in : Holidays on by : admin Comments:

India has been growing in popularity as a tourist destination over the last decade or so. It is vital to make sure that routine vaccinations are up to date and that travellers are protected against hepatitis, tetanus, typhoid and malaria which are common in many areas of India. Most people will take a small first aid kit on holiday just so they have a ready and easily accessible supply of plasters and antiseptic cream for any small cuts and grazes and paracetamol for some pain relief. However, do not travel to India without taking some kind of tropical strength DEET based insect repellent. If you do get bitten, then apply cooling bite cream to relieve the itchiness. A course of diarrhoea treatment tablets and re-hydration tablets are also recommended additions to the first aid kit. Hopefully, they won’t be used but, if they are needed, then they are easily available to hand.

Saving Money for Travelling

Posted in : Travel on by : admin Comments:

If you’re looking to travel for several months or a year, you’re going to need to budget wisely. It can take a lot of determination to save for travelling, but of course the amount, depends on how far you’re travelling and the countries you’re going to be spending time in. If you’re heading over to Thailand, Burma or Mongolia, then you’ll be happy to hear that living costs are cheap, and whilst flights may be rather pricy, you can get around on trains, and actually live off £5 per week. There are many hotels and hostels with decent facilities, whist food is remarkably cheap. Countries like America, New Zealand, Canada and Australia tend to be a bit more on the expensive side, and you may have to save a significant amount, especially if you’re looking to spend time in a quality hotel or apartments in cities and built up towns. Make sure you put thought into the amount you need, and keep to a money-saving plan.

Iceberg Watching

Posted in : Travel on by : admin Comments:

Icebergs are a large piece of ice which has broken off of an ice shelf or glacier, and then gone into the ocean. These pieces of ice are all fresh water ice, and can be quite massive. Some of them have been known to weigh more than half a million tonnes. You can actually watch these being created on some holiday tours around the Antarctic, from Canada to Greenland. When they fall off the ice shelf, they can create massive waves, so you need to make sure that you are in a large boat. Icebergs are a natural phenomena, but they are growing in number as the glaciers move toward the ocean faster then before, due to the changes we’ve made to our environment; global warming.Still, it makes for an amazing spectacle, one which if you ever get the opportunity to experience you shouldn’t pass up.
